Hypertension is a chronic pathology that involves the increase of blood pressure. One of the characteristics of this disease is that it does not present clear symptoms and that these do not manifest for a long time. The normal blood pressure in adults is 120 mm Hg when the heart beats (systolic tension) and 80 mm Hg when the heart relaxes (diastolic tension). When the systolic pressure is equal to or greater than 140 mm Hg and / or the diastolic pressure is equal to or greater than 90 mm Hg, the blood pressure is considered high.
At present, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality in the world. However, hypertension is a treatable condition. It is important to follow the doctor’s recommendations in order to avoid serious complications, such as a myocardial infarction, hemorrhage or cerebral thrombosis.
